Bookmarks

A bookmark pins a strategy or portfolio to the top of the lists you browse, so the few things you actually follow never get lost among the other 178.

The Strategies page holds a lot of strategies, dozens of them for BTC alone, and it's sorted by total return unless you change it. Once you've found the three or four you care about, scrolling past dozens of others every time gets old. A bookmark fixes that: whatever you bookmark sits first in its folder, whatever sort order you pick.

Bookmarks are part of a paid plan, because they're saved to your account rather than to your browser. On the free version, clicking the bookmark icon opens a short window titled Bookmarks that explains this and links to the plans. (If you have a plan but aren't signed in yet, use I have a plan: sign in in that window.) See Free and paid access for everything a plan adds.

Bookmark a strategy

You can do it from a card in any folder or from the strategy's own page.

  1. Open Strategies and pick a folder, for example BTC.
  2. On the card, click the bookmark icon bookmark icon next to the Long/Flat pill.
  3. The icon fills in bookmark icon and the card jumps to the top of the list.

[Goldenbaum T3 and God Emperor T9 are bookmarked (1, filled icon), so they come first even though the folder is sorted by total return. Von Lohengramm T7, with the higher return, now comes after them; its icon (2) is still empty.]

On a strategy page, the same icon sits in the row of buttons next to the title, between Add to portfolio and the compare icon scale icon. Click it again to remove the bookmark; the tooltip then reads "Remove bookmark".

A bookmark belongs to the strategy, not to the dates you were looking at. Bookmark it while viewing 3Y and it's the same bookmark you'd get from the card.

Bookmark a portfolio

  1. Open Portfolios.
  2. Click the bookmark icon bookmark icon on a portfolio card, or the one in the header of an open portfolio.
  3. The portfolio moves up into Your portfolios, at the top of the page.

This works for the default portfolios too. If you follow Four Pillars Index [GPS] closely, bookmark it and it sits next to your own portfolios instead of in the long list of defaults below.

[Four Pillars Index [GPS] is a default portfolio, but once bookmarked (1) it appears under Your portfolios.]

Where bookmarks make a difference

PlaceWhat changes
Any strategy folderBookmarked strategies come first, then the rest in your chosen sort order
Portfolios pageBookmarked portfolios move into Your portfolios
The portfolio switcher on a board (the Portfolios button)Bookmarked portfolios are listed first, with a filled bookmark icon
Add strategy on your own portfolioThe picker opens on the Bookmarked tab: your bookmarked strategies that aren't in that portfolio yet

That last one is the most useful in practice. Bookmark the strategies you're considering while you browse, then open your portfolio and add them from the Bookmarked tab without searching again. If the tab says "No unused bookmarks.", everything you've bookmarked is already in the portfolio (or, opened from a ticker's +, nothing you bookmarked trades that market).

If you only want one strategy in a portfolio, you don't need a bookmark at all. Add to portfolio on the strategy's page asks "Which portfolio?" and drops it on the board you pick. Bookmarks pay off when you're collecting several candidates before you decide.

What a bookmark doesn't do

A bookmark is only about order. It doesn't send you anything when the strategy changes; for that, set an alert with the bell bell icon. Removing a bookmark doesn't remove the strategy from any portfolio either.

There's no separate bookmarks page. Old links to /bookmarks simply open Strategies.

Bookmarks follow your account, so they're there on any device you sign in on. They're included when you use Download my data in your profile, and they're deleted along with everything else if you delete your account. If your plan ends, they're kept; subscribe again with the same account and they're back.
