Your first ten minutes
A short guided tour: open a strategy, read what it's telling you, look at a ready-made portfolio, and, with a plan, make it your own.
This tour uses one real strategy and one real portfolio so you can follow along click by click. The first three stops work for anyone, signed in or not. The last one needs a plan. Nothing you click here places a trade.
1. Open a strategy
Click Strategies in the top bar, then the BTC (Bitcoin) folder. You'll see its strategies, sorted by total return. Type Lohengramm into Search and open Von Lohengramm T7 - BTCUSD.
There's no "best" strategy to start with, and sorting by return favours the most aggressive ones. For a first look, though, this one is useful: it trades rarely, has a long history and appears on the Home page.
2. Read it
[1. Return, the back arrow, 2. the Flat pill next to CONSENSUS · BTC · 5D, 3. Add to portfolio, 4. Bookmark, 5. Compare, 6. the alert bell.]
Start at the small line above the name. 5D means the strategy decides once every 5-day bar. The pill next to it says Long if the rules hold BTC right now and Flat if they're out. As a visitor you'll see a note such as "from 15 Jul 2026 until at least 28 Jul 2026, the end of the free version, about three months ago. It may have changed since." next to it: that's the position about three months ago, not today.
The description tells you what the rules look at. This one is an index: seven strategies share nine votes, and it buys when five of them are bullish.
Scroll down to the price chart. Each gold circle is an entry and each blue circle an exit. Further down, under the performance numbers, the Equity chart shows the strategy's simulated account, which starts at 100, next to Buy & Hold, which simply bought BTC and kept it. Switch on Log if the line looks flat for years and then shoots up; on a log scale, equal heights mean equal percentage moves.
Under Performance, four numbers are enough for now:
- CAGR: the average yearly growth.
- Equity max DD: the deepest fall from a high, in percent. This is the pain you'd have sat through.
- Sharpe: return per unit of ups and downs. Higher is better; above 1 is good.
- Trades: how often it acted. Few trades means each one counts for a lot.
Click 5Y next to Window and every number recalculates for just the last five years; All brings back the full history. The Trades tab above the chart lists every buy and sell with its date and price. The strategy page explains everything else on it, and Metrics at a glance every number.
3. Look at a default portfolio
A portfolio combines several strategies into one simulated account. Click Portfolios in the top bar and, under Default portfolios, open 80/20 Crypto/Stocks [GPS]. The [GPS] tag means it's one of the ready-made portfolios we publish.
Look at the Weights panel on the right: 80% of the account goes to crypto (BTC, HYPE and VVV) and 20% to chip stocks, and inside each market that share is split between its strategies. Click any strategy name there to open its page. The chart tabs above show the portfolio's account line, how the allocation shifted over time (Allocation) and the mix at the end of the window (Current).
Default portfolios are read-only, so everyone sees the same reference. Default portfolios to explore describes each of them.
4. Make it your own (with a plan)
Back on Portfolios, click the copy icon Duplicate icon on the 80/20 Crypto/Stocks [GPS] card.
[1. Duplicate. It opens an editable copy under Your portfolios.]
An editable copy opens straight away, named "80/20 Crypto/Stocks [GPS] (copy)". Type a different percentage into one of the weights and the chart and numbers update; changes save on their own, and undo left icon Revert last change in the header steps back. Static mix and weights covers the panel in full.
Then go back to Von Lohengramm T7 and click the bell icon bell. Enter the address where alerts should go (only needed the first time), add a note about what you'd do when it fires, and click Create alert.
[Alert name, the e-mail address (needed once), an optional note that goes into the e-mail, then Create alert.]
From now on you'll get an e-mail, shortly after the nightly update, whenever this strategy switches between Long and Flat. If you're thinking of acting on those e-mails, read Keeping up with a strategy next.
If something didn't work
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| A "Paid feature" window | Duplicating, editing, bookmarks and alerts need a plan. Click I have a plan: sign in if you have one, or keep browsing for free. |
| No Duplicate icon on the cards | You're signed out. Click Login. |
| Weights you can't change | You're on the default portfolio, not your copy. Open the copy under Your portfolios. |
| No alert e-mail yet | The strategy hasn't changed position since you set it, which can take months. Check the address under Delivery on the Alerts page. |
